      Training Grants and You

Employees with a new or improved skillset can make a world of difference to a company. They may improve efficiencies, enhance productivity, or help tap into new opportunities for revenue. Hiring outside trainers is a heavy cost that sometimes forces the need for companies to compromise on other ends of their spending.

One solution is funding through regional training grants, such as the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, B.C. Employer Training Grant, and Canada-Ontario Job Grant. They each cover considerable portions of expenses related to employee training.

SJE Consulting Ltd. has led to many successful applications for clients with all three grants. As our company pursues funding from one of these grants for you, here’s what you can expect:

How much of the training costs can be covered?

The grant contributes two-thirds of the training cost per employee up to a maximum of $10,000 of subsidy per employee per year.

Employers can receive up to $300,000 in total funding over the course of the government fiscal year.

Will my planned training be eligible?

For training to be eligible for funding, it must start within six months of receiving approval from the grant program and be completed within 52 weeks of the start date.

Some provinces specify a minimum number of training hours. Contact us to learn more about the rules in your province.

What information is needed to get started?

During a call with SJE Consulting Ltd., we will need to learn about the course you’ve selected

      • What is it called?
      • Who is delivering the training?
      • How many hours is it?
      • When is it starting and ending?

We’ll also need to know the costs you’ll incur with this training, such as

      • Tuition
      • Required materials
      • Exam fees
      • Any other costs

SJE Consulting Ltd. will schedule a time with you to collect information from the people who will receive training. This will take about 5 minutes per employee.

This can be done in-person, on the phone, or a quick video conference call.

      Training quote

We will need a quote from the training provider that lists instructional hours, training dates, any travel expenses and costs per trainee.

If the training provider has not prepared a quote, SJE Consulting Ltd. can coordinate directly with the training provider.
