Budget 2022: The Agricultural Clean Tech Program

Heads up! This post is now 3 years old, and the content may not be current information.

With an eye to accelerating Canada’s move to clean tech, the 2022 Federal Budget has now tripled the size of funds for the Agricultural Clean Technology Program (ACT).

In the past few years, Canada has experienced dramatic climate challenges, from droughts to extreme weather. There has never been a more critical time to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to enhance Canadian agricultural competitiveness. Farmers and agri-businesses are key players in reducing greenhouse emissions, and aid in building climate change resilience.

Supporting a major push towards a low-carbon economy that includes research, innovation and adoption of clean technologies, the Government of Canada is promising funds of $329.4 million over six years, starting in 2022-2023. Priorities include: green energy and energy efficiency; precision agriculture and bioeconomy. Funds will also allow more farmers to subsidize the purchase of environmentally friendly equipment.
